Desde Izquierda Unida habían solicitado que se recuperase esta comisión y se cumpliese la llamada Ley de la Memoria Histórica en la capital malagueña. Los populares, sin embargo, no están de acuerdo y se han negado a aprobar la iniciativa.

Con esta iniciativa pretendían retirar los nombres franquistas de las calles y anular la declaración de hijo predilecto a Queipo de Llano que llevó a cabo el Ayuntamiento de la localidad.
